🍷 Vineyards and Wineries
- Looking for a relaxed afternoon outing? Follow the advice of one of our recent guests… About 30 minutes from the lake, Tunnel Creek is well worth the drive. The setting is beautiful, the staff are welcoming, and the wine is excellent. It’s peaceful on non-event days, with livelier weekends beginning mid-to-late March and throughout the warmer season. We may have brought home a few bottles ourselves.
Botanist and Barrel Cedar Grove Winery
- Botanist & Barrel crafts Southern ciders, sours, and dry fruit wines using wild and spontaneous cultures. As the South’s only natural cidery of its kind, it focuses on locally, sustainably, and organically grown fruit, including estate-grown apples and blueberries. Using tree-ripened heritage apples, it produces low-sugar, low-calorie beverages with no additives, sulfites, filtering, or pasteurization.

- 1-mile roundtrip hike through the woods on the banks of the lake.
- It’s relatively short and easy as it’s paved but they have offshoots on the 1-mile trail you can take if you want to explore more.
- Would recommend it for families!

- Unlike flashy modern tracks, VIR sits in rural southern Virginia, surrounded by trees and rolling hills. The vibe is calm, serious, and purpose-built. Think motorsport retreat rather than motorsport theme park.

- Caswell Pines Golf Club (≈15 min from the house)
Tucked into the rolling countryside just north of the lake, Caswell Pines offers a scenic 18-hole championship course with a relaxed, uncrowded feel. Well-kept Bermuda fairways, smooth bent grass greens, a driving range, and a laid-back clubhouse grill make it a great fit for both a focused round or an easygoing afternoon outdoors.
