🔥 Outdoor Fire Pit Safety Guidelines
We want you to enjoy the fire pit and the beautiful lake views safely. Please take a quick moment to review these important guidelines before using it. PLEASE READ THIS SECTION!
Reminder – Quiet Hours
- Please, no fires, loud voices, or noises after 10 pm. Sound carries over the water. Please be respectful of our neighbors.
Before You Start
- Check local conditions: Avoid using the fire pit on windy days or during burn bans. Sites like N.C. Forest Service – Wildfire Situation Report | NC Agriculture can give updates on NC fire bans.
- Clear the area: Make sure there are no leaves, sticks, or flammable materials within 10 feet of the fire pit.
- Use only approved materials: Burn clean, dry firewood only. No trash, plastics, cardboard, treated lumber, or accelerants (gasoline, lighter fluid, etc.).
During Use
- Never leave the fire unattended—even for a few minutes.
- Keep children at a safe distance.
- Mind flying embers: Keep chairs a safe distance from the flames.
- Keep water nearby: A bucket of water should always be accessible.
Extinguishing the Fire When you are Done.
- Let the fire burn down naturally as much as possible.
- Spread the ashes with a poker or stick.
- Douse thoroughly with water until all hissing stops.
- Stir the ashes to confirm everything is completely out.
- Never leave until the pit is cold.
Additional Notes
- Please don’t move the fire pit from its designated location.
- Avoid burning large logs that hang over the sides.
- Be mindful of neighbors and keep noise to a minimum after quiet hours.
- If winds pick up unexpectedly, extinguish the fire promptly.
- If you ever feel unsure or conditions don’t feel safe, don’t start a fire.
Firewood
- Firewood is located in the parking area.
Lighters and Starters
- Fire starters and lighters are stored in the left-side pantry. One or two fire starters are usually all you’ll need to get things going. When you’re finished, please return the lighters to the same spot so they’re easy to find for the next guest.
